It should be a crime to do this much damage to the climate
 Welcome to www.stopurban4x4s.org.uk, the website of the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s. We are a grassroots campaign with the aim of uniting environment, consumer, road safety groups and CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS in an alliance against the growth of urban Four Wheel Drive vehicles on our streets.
Also known as 4WDs (Four Wheel Drives) and SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles), these cars burn fuel at a rate that puts our climate at risk while also posing a danger to pedestrians (especially children), cyclists and drivers of smaller cars.
Our goal is to promote increased taxes and charges against 4x4 vehicles, including an increased congestion charge to £20 in London and increased road tax. We would also like to see an end to misleading 4x4 advertisements in the mainstream media
While our campaign began in London (where drivers have absolutely no excuse to drive these dirty, unsafe cars), we believe that any urban 4x4 use is dirty, unsafe and unsustainable. When you consider that 95% of these huge cars never leave a tarmac road and most owners have no idea how to engage the low gears anyway, it’s not hard to see how we came up with our catch phrase:
NOT SAFE, NOT CLEAN, NOT COOL!
We will endeavour to keep you up to date with the heightened media interest in this debate and our progress in consolidating political action against the oil guzzling, climate changing, mobile fortresses on our streets.
